Raeford was born in St. Paul, Ne. His parents moved to the Pine Ridge, S.D., Indian Reservation when he was an infant. His K-12 education involved many moves throughout the great plains of Nebraska, with one year stays in Colorado and Montana. He has a deep passion for th e land and people. In the summer months he stayed with his aunt and uncle and hired out hoeing cockle burrs and farming for the neighbors around St. Libory, Ne. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States with studies in Oslo, Norway, and a four year stay as an art specialist and community recreation director in South Korea. The studies in Norway on Norwegian and Scandinavian design had a profound impact on his aesthetically understanding of the intrinsic and inherent values. Raeford continuously pursues the inherent and intrinsic values in his works. His working with children have a tremendous and perspective to the expressive qualities of art and the profound statements about the world we live in. He uses his knowledge gained from children and the creative work done for his Masters of Fine Arts thesis titled A Childhood Connection.
Art makes man and civilization unique and whole. Every day I am seeking the Joy of Discovery just like a child seeing a butterfly, a fish, or a worm for the first time. I tell stories through the visual language of the elements and principles of art.
