The Art Exploration is a summer program open to middle school and high school
students who have a true interest and passion for visual arts.
Each week the students will be introduced to a different art form. We explore
pottery, photography, drawing, painting and more.
The program is more of an exploration and introduction to several art forms
rather than an intense study on any one media.
Throughout the summer the young artists will leave their work at The Studio
(parents are welcome to stop in and see the projects)
During the final week of the program the students’ work will be submitted
into the open class portion of the Geary County Free Fair.
Also during that week the students will plan a reception at which they will
be allowed to auction one item they made during the summer. They do not have
to participate in the auction, but if they choose to, they will be required
to return 10 percent of their sale to the JCAC.
Art For Art Sake ... Why we do An Art Exploration
Art is a fundamental part of life. Children who are fortunate to have a strong
artistic spirit, need an outlet to express themselves. However, there are many
aspects to art; while one child may find their artistic preference lies in the
paint, another will find it behind the lenses of a camera, or in a lump of clay.
An Art Exploration was developed to give children exposure to several types
of art and help them find the form of artistic expression that most suits their
individuality.
With a small class size, the instructors can give individual attention to meet
the needs of children with a range of skill levels.
It is of the utmost importance that the children who attend the Art Exploration
are those who are truly interested in art.
