The JCAC has been a one-person department, but in the week prior to Christmas Emily Vieyra accepted a part-time position as Studio Coordinator. I am really excited about the changes that we’ll be able to make in our studio operations with Emily at the helm of the studio. She is a talented and educated artist who has a history of activity with the Arts Council. She shares a vision for exposing youth to art genres, art history, fine art and famous artists. She has the talents to teach youth and adults and will work to bring artists in for workshops and seminars.
I am looking forward to 2008 being very active in the studio with regular classes for adults and youth.
Emily’s first day on the job will be Jan. 2, joining her will be Ellen Chalk who will also start a part-time position at the JCAC on that date. I’m equally pleased to welcome Ellen who, like Emily, has been a member of the JCAC and is familiar with and supports our mission.
One of the most difficult aspects of being a one-person department has been the frequency that the office has to be closed. Meetings, errands, trips to the store to buy office supplies, hanging posters, handing out flyers, and an array or other chores often force the office door closed and locked. I have never found this acceptable, and now visitors to The Gallery or to the office won’t have to visit around my schedule.
Ellen has the qualities and skills to help bring the office the next level.
Both of our new employees will stay busy as we look forward to a full calendar of activities and events. I look to continue the growth in membership and events’ attendance.
