Premier Artist
The Junction City Arts Council will recognize one emerging artist of exceptional quality at its Premier Ball on the last Saturday in February.
The Premier Artist program was developed as a means to recognize emerging artists and give new talent a boost into the art world.
The Artist will be chosen by a panel of established artists and art professionals
For the purpose of the Premier Artist program the JCAC defines an emerging artist as one who is not and has never been represented by a gallery. An emerging artist is one who is striving to be a professional artist.
The Award
The Premier Artist is presented with a gift pack comprising contributions that include agreements from Kansas galleries to meet with the artist to discuss the potential of showing and/or representing the artist; one-year memberships to the Junction City Arts Council, and other arts organizations; and more as donations to the artist gift pack are received.
Applicants must agree that if they win they will attend the Premier Ball and exhibit a minimum of ten (10) pieces of original work. The artist agrees to offer at least some of the work at this exhibit for sale.

What The Jurors Will Look For
Please keep in mind that, as with any competition of an artistic nature, judging is subjective. Although the judges will have certain criteria to judge on, their decision are based on their individual opinion. They are given the following criteria to judge on and have been asked to submit comments to all entrants:
- Originality
Clarity of Style
Quality of composition and design.
Overall impression. The effect of the project as a whole, often based on the first glimpse of the finished piece will be judged. Without regard to the other criterion, does it stand on its own as a good and complete work of art?
Potential
Selection Process
At the close of the submission acceptance period, copies of all entries will be delivered to the jurors. The jurors are professional artists and/or art professionals from outside of Kansas.
The Jurors will return score sheets to the JCAC where scores will be tabulated. Should a tie occur, the JCAC and the jurors will determine to either request one piece of original work from the artists who have tied or present multiple awards.
