JCAC History
The Junction City Arts Council was incorporated as a non-profit organization on Feb. 14, 1974. Its first major event was "Art in the Park" which had been held annually in Heritage Park for more than 20 years.
In the beginning the JCAC was able to fund part-time directors with grants from the Kansas Arts Commission. Eventually the funding for that position dried up and the organization operated under volunteer power only.
In 2005, the city made a financial contribution to the JCAC, which allowed the organization to hire its first full-time director. The city took its assistance a step further in 2007 when it brought the JCAC under its umbrella and made the JCAC a city department. The JCAC has, however, maintained a non-profit component - one of only two arts organizations in the state that has a similar arrangement.
