The  Junction City Arts Council reached its 2009 membership goal.

JCAC director Gail Parsons said she was hoping to increase the membership to 125 or more members; this would be an 18 percent increase over the previous year and a 115 percent increase over 2004, which was the last year that the JCAC operated without a full-time director.

“The steady growth of membership tells me that we are on the right track,” she said.

Among this year’s members are 31 new members. The JCAC counts new members as those who were not members the previous year, some of them had been members several years ago and have now rejoined the organization.

Parsons attributes the growth to the Arts Council’s increased visibility and programming.

“We are able to provide art programming to youth and adults,” she said.

Having a physical presence in the downtown allows the JCAC to have a home where people can come and enjoy art.

Membership dollars are also at their highest this year. The non-profit organization offers five levels of membership beginning at $25. These funds go to supporting scholarships and grants and all programming, which includes many free events to the community, such as the Concerts in the Park. Though the JCAC is a city department, it maintains a non-profit component that is responsible for providing the programming, classes, events, scholarships, and much more.

In an effort to show their appreciation to the members, several drawings were held during the Friday opening of the June/July exhibit. Winners that evening were John Rosa, Pat and Fred Dolan, Linda Powers, and Rebecca Clouse and Joseph Miller.
